Fort Belvoir is a U.S. Army base located in Fairfax County, Virginia, close to the communities of Lorton, Alexandria, Springfield, and Fairfax Station. It is home to the United States Army Intelligence and Security Command, the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, and the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command. Considered part of the Washington, DC metropolitan area, Fort Belvoir real estate provides exceptional access to some of the country’s best shopping, dining, entertainment, and recreation.

Shopping and Dining
The historic waterfront community of Old Town Alexandria, located approximately 20 minutes from Fort Belvoir, is one of the most popular walking, shopping, and dining destinations in the Washington, DC area. Boutiques, art galleries, museums, and local shops line quaint, cobblestone streets. Momo Sushi, Faccia Luna Trattoria, Restaurant Eve, Vermillion, Chart House, and Hard Times Café are a few of the area’s most popular restaurants. People who want to stay closer to the base often shop and dine in Woodbridge or Stafford. Stonebridge - Woodbridge’s latest mixed-use center - is home to Blueberi, Chico’s, Cold Water Creek, Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, Old Navy, P.F. Changs, Starbucks, Ulta, White House Black Market, and more. Lorton also boasts a number of local shops, grocery stores, and restaurants.

Parks and Recreation
Fort Belvoir is home to a new state-of-the-art USO facility. At 25,000 sq. ft., the facility is the largest USO center ever built. It features a sports lounge, a gaming center, a small theater, a music room, a grill area, an art studio, a business center, a learning center, and more. Programs offered include yoga, Texas Hold ‘em, bingo, and children’s play groups. Off-base recreational opportunities also abound. Accotink Park, located 12 miles from the base, is a 493-acre park featuring wetlands, streams, four miles of natural-surface hiking trails, picnic areas, a 55-acre lake, a sand volleyball court, a basketball court, and a playground. Visitors can canoe, rent pedal boats or bicycles, fish, ride the antique carousel, or play a round at the nine-green double-holed miniature golf course. The 642-acre Ocoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge offers opportunities for wildlife observation, wildlife photography, environmental education, and hunting. Visitors can explore the refuge via foot, bicycle, or vehicle. An 18-hole championship golf course is located in Woodbridge, just minutes from Fort Belvoir. Situated along the Occoquan River, the Osprey’s Golf Course at Belmont Bay is a Par 72 Audubon Certified course perfect for golfers of all levels.

Living
Fort Belvoir real estate offers a wide selection of condominiums, townhomes, single-family houses, and luxury estates at prices that fit almost any budget. Homes for sale in Alexandria include historic Colonial homes, modern condominiums, waterfront estates, and quiet houses on rural properties. Woodbridge offers a small-town atmosphere with easy access to Washington, DC and some of the region’s best outdoor locations, including the Potomac and Ocoquan rivers. Schools, Health, Transportation
Fairfax County Public School system operates schools in and around Fort Belvoir. Children who live on base attend Fort Belvoir Elementary School, Walt Whitman Middle School, and Mount Vernon High School. Children who live off base attend schools based on where they live. While most communities around Fort Belvoir, including Lorton and Mount Vernon, are served by the Fairfax County Public Schools system, some are not. Prince William County Public School System serves the children of Woodbridge and other surrounding communities.

Fort Belvoir Community Hospital is a new state-of-the-art facility featuring single-patient rooms, beautiful views, green technology, and the latest in medical technology. Additional, national-ranking hospitals are located throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area. These include Inova Fairfax Hospital and MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

Fort Belvoir provides convenient access to I-95. Lorton is home to a Virginia Railway Express station, which runs between Fredericksburg, VA and Washington, DC, and an Amtrak station. A private bus company provides daily service from the Lorton VRE station to Penn Station in Manhattan.
